Who is Kentaro Miura?

Kentaro Miura is the author and artist of the dark fantasy masterpiece Berserk.

Miura was born on July 11 1966 in the Chiba district in Japan. By the time he was 10 years old he created his very own manga series 'Miuranger', Which he published at his school for his classmates; the series end up spanning up to 40 volumes.

From an early age he had a high level of creativity, Which for those who saw his work acknowledged his impressive and unique art style as well as the level of detail in each page.

After a few one-shot manga projects, Miura then began working on a 48 page prototype manga for his art schools competition; the project itself would evolve into one of the most successful series of all time known as Berserk.

Berserk would start publication from Young Animal (publisher) on August 25 1989 and would continue until September 10th 2021 after the creators passing; The series would span to over 40 tankoban volumes and sell over 40+ million copies worldwide as well as earning Miura the tezuka osamu cultural prize in 2002.

Due to health problems, from 2006 and onwards Berserk would go on frequent and extended hiatus, only releasing a chapter every other month or sometimes a year.

On may 6th, 2021, at the age of 54, Kentaro Miura passed away due to aortic dissection. His death was announced publicly on may 20th.
